Resources for federal workers

How are you doing? It’s a loaded question these days, with so many of us affected by life events, as well as our friends and family everywhere. It has seemed like a lot lately, from the loss of beloved church family members to lost jobs in the federal workforce. Many people are grieving, confused and even feeling as if they are bearing a burden alone. You are not.

Hopefully by now you know your deacons are willing to lend their ears and hearts. In March we tried doing “deacon office hours,” meeting ahead of Sunday service for those who wanted. Soon we have Six for Supper, another great opportunity for fellowship and relationship-building in our church. And there are always coffee hours where you are invited to connect with others.

Individually, we do not have all the answers for each other. But we’re not expected to have all the answers – just the willingness to listen and pray if desired. Fortunately, Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax counties have many resources at hand to help with everything from job searches to tax preparation, and even social services. Hopefully, you’ve seen the links already in the Friday bulletins, but just to provide them again, here are some online sites the deacons have found for those managing federal workforce changes:

If you have other resources to share or would like help connecting to your deacon, please reach out to the church office at office@fpcarlington.org.
