FPC YOUTH meets every Sunday at 9:45 in Room 106

FPC Youth begins the year with a new study focusing on the Psalms and reflecting on themes including prayer, thanksgiving, and worship. We are exploring the character of God and what it means to be a faithful follower of Christ using the Psalms as the underpinning to our study. Once a month, we break for fellowship and conversation at Panera.

This month we've enjoyed time together making quesadillas, eating pizza, and laughing over many a silly game!

We'll wrap up the month with a visit to the ice skating rink! If you have an interest in supporting the youth as an occasional chaperone for an event, contact Katherine, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Youth in grades 6-12 are active in the life of First Presbyterian.

  • Senior High Youth (9-12 grades) gather weekly for youth fellowship on Sunday evenings.

  • Throughout the year, First Presbyterian youth participate in presbytery youth activities, as well as outside functions such as Christian music concerts, tubing, laser tag, paintball, and trips to King's Dominion amusement park.

  • Each Sunday morning, junior high youth gather to explore the Bible and their faith during the church's education hour while senior high youth take a walk across the street to Panera Bread to bond over hot chocolate and bagels.

  • Youth are involved in the worship life of the church, serving as ushers and liturgists in the Sunday morning services.

  • Youth participate in the mission work of the church, participating in the annual CROP walk, preparing and serving bagged meals to homeless folks in the area, organizing canned food drives, as well as participating in summer mission trips both domestic and abroad.

Top Goals for the Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry is one of the vital ministries of a local congregation. One of the most urgent, most helpful tasks for the church is to help answer any questions teens have, help them understand what Christianity is, and be helpful as they make the transition from childhood to adulthood.

At its most recent meeting, the church's Youth Council established four top goals for the overall youth ministry of this congregation:

  1. Build committed relationships among people--of all ages--in the church.

  2. Develop the spiritual lives of young people.

  3. Develop an appreciation for the history of the church and a love for the Bible.

  4. Develop a youth program that is meaningful and significant for everyone who is involved.

Children's and Youth Ministry

Take a few moments to check out a PHOTO SLIDESHOW of the Summer 2014 Youth and Middle School Mission Trip. Five middle and high school girls were ready for a mission adventure. The experience depended their faith, broadened their perspective as compared to their own lives, opened their hearts and the girls were inspired by volunteers that were committed to making a difference.

At First Church, we partner with families to guide and nurture children and youth, providing plenty of ways to encourage kids to know and follow Jesus Christ and be faithful members of his church. Learn how we approach spiritual development of children and youth at Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry.
