"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer."  (Acts 2:42)

First Presbyterian Church creates and sponsors various activities for members, their guests, and visitors to enhance each person's individual faith journey.

After every Sunday worship service, we gather for fellowship with coffee and light snacks after 8:30 a.m. in the Parlor, and after the 11:30 a.m. worship service in the Yount Social Hall directly below the Sanctuary. Here, our visitors have the opportunity to meet and enjoy social time with church members each week. Members welcome this time to meet visitors and reconnect with established friendships within the congregation. The Quarterlife Group (young adults) occasionally gathers at a local eatery for fellowship after church.

Throughout the week, the church hosts many other opportunities for fellowship: the Men's Covenant Group (Tuesdays at 6:30 a.m. in the Parlor), and various church teams and groups gather to plan upcoming activities. Members of Session (the church's governing body) enjoy fellowship at monthly meetings to conduct the business of the church. Small groups like the Church Ladies Book Club meet at different homes on Mondays at 7 p.m.

Through active involvement in the myriad Mission activities sponsored by the church, members and friends find both fellowship and the opportunity to be of service to those in need.

IMG 0638-323-800-600-80Congregational Life team organizes potluck meals after the 11:00 a.m. worship on each Palm Sunday, the Summer Picnic and on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. In addition to enjoying the company of others while dining, you might also enjoy helping with set up and clean up.

Other activities have included: hikes, summer softball games, trips to the Nationals Baseball games, the FPC NCAA Basketball Bracketology Madness, caroling at Christmas, movie nights, and small group dinners.

Children's and Youth Ministry

Position Opening: Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry

The Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry is the staff person primarily responsible for the Christian education and worship experience of children and youth from birth through 12th grade. The Director will report to the Pastor as a supervisor and to the Children’s and Youth Ministry Team (CYMT) for programs.  The position is a full-time (exempt) salaried position. For the complete job description please see FPCA_DCYM_June_2019.pdf.

Take a few moments to check out a PHOTO SLIDESHOW of the Summer 2014 Youth and Middle School Mission Trip. Five middle and high school girls were ready for a mission adventure. The experience depended their faith, broadened their perspective as compared to their own lives, opened their hearts and the girls were inspired by volunteers that were committed to making a difference.

At First Church, we partner with families to guide and nurture children and youth, providing plenty of ways to encourage kids to know and follow Jesus Christ and be faithful members of his church.
