Children at First Presbyterian |
| |
“Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me and do not stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” – Matthew 19:14
Welcome to First Presbyterian Church. Our congregation is active and growing, with many opportunities for families to worship, serve, pray, and play together. Please join us!
At First Church, we partner with families to guide and nurture children and youth, providing plenty of ways to encourage kids to know and follow Jesus Christ and be faithful members of his church.
Please view our Children and Youth Ministry brochure for 2011-12 [pdf].

Nursery Care (Babies and Toddlers) |
| |
Children of all ages are always welcome in worship services. Childcare is also available in our cheery Nursery, Room 101 where children are supervised by our professional caregivers. We provide parents and guardians with silent pagers by which you can be contacted during the worship service if your child needs your attention.

Worship Opportunities for Kids |
| |
During the 11 a.m. worship service, preschool children who are not yet reading can pick up a Worship Bag filled with crayons, stickers, and drawing paper to engage them in the days lessons. Young readers can pick up a Pew Packet filled with Bible puzzles and scripture word games and an interactive children’s bulletin.
Each Sunday, the children come forward for a special lesson during Time for Children. Afterwards, there are two special programs for those who have not yet entered second grade. Two-, Three- and Four-year olds attend Bridges to Worship, a play oriented program, which includes story time, snack, and play. Bridges to Worship is staffed by parent volunteers and nursery workers.
Kindergartners and First Graders attend PraiseKids, an experiential worship program that includes music, prayer, and other kid-friendly elements of worship. PraiseKids children return to the larger service after the sermon so that they may participate in offering, communion, Baptism, and other responses to the word along with the full congregation. PraiseKids is designed to prepare children to engage more fully in worship and be able to stay in the service once they become second-graders. |

Church-Wide Events |
| |
|
Many church-wide events include a special focus for children. Our annual all-church retreat always includes programming and activities to strengthen the ties of our children to the wider congregation. Children regularly provide leadership for special services at Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and summer worship. Children are always welcome and encouraged to attend outreach, mission, and fellowship events as well. |
